YOUR BUSINESS. OUR FOCUS.
UpSure Life Sciences
From promising research to real-world responsibility.
Your risk changes as a product moves from development to trials and commercial use. Start with a conversation about the science, the stage and the people involved.
Specialist scope and insurer appetite confirmed before proceeding.
Start with the activity
Explain the research, services and products in practical terms.
Distinguish the liabilities
Review product, professional and trial-related exposures separately.
Plan for the next milestone
Discuss trials, new markets and commercialisation before they start.
A CLEARER STARTING POINT
The stage of the science matters.
A research supplier, a device developer and a company sponsoring a clinical trial face different questions. Share your role, product use, development stage and countries of operation. We will confirm the scope we can help arrange.
- Biotech businesses
- Medical product developers
- Research service providers
- Laboratory businesses
THE COVER CONVERSATION
What might your business need?
Start with the exposures, then the policy. Here are some of the areas we can discuss.
Product & service liability
Allegations involving injury or damage from your products or services need specialist activity and territory review.
Discuss with our teamClinical trials liability
Where relevant, trial protocols, sponsors, sites and countries require specific assessment and insurance arrangements.
Discuss with our teamProfessional indemnity
Research services, technical advice and contractual deliverables can introduce financial-loss exposures.
Explore this areaLaboratories & equipment
Discuss specialist equipment, samples, temperature control and interruption, without assuming standard property cover is sufficient.
Explore this areaCyber & research data
Sensitive information, research systems and third-party platforms create security and privacy dependencies.
Explore this areaDirectors & management
Leadership and employment exposures as the business hires, raises capital and enters new partnerships.
Explore this areaThese are areas to discuss, not a recommended package or confirmation that cover is available. We will confirm insurer appetite and the scope we can arrange. Policy terms, exclusions, limits and excesses apply. Workers compensation and other compulsory arrangements need separate consideration.
BEFORE THE NEXT MILESTONE
A new use can mean a different insurance question.
Moving from research-only supply into clinical use or commercial distribution can change the exposure materially. A policy arranged at an earlier stage should not be assumed to follow the product automatically.
- Define intended uses and any work involving human participants.
- Share protocols, approvals, quality controls and contracts.
- Review new trial locations and sales territories before expansion.
LET'S MAKE IT SIMPLE
A short brief.
A real conversation.
Tell us what you do, what is changing and when you need cover. We will explain the next step and what else we need.
Start your enquiryA few useful things to have ready
- Products, services, development stage and intended uses
- Trial involvement, sites, countries and regulatory status
- Contracts, quality systems and equipment dependencies
- Current cover, renewal dates and claims or incidents
Complex quotes require an engagement letter before detailed broking work begins. Here is how that works.
Is this the same as healthcare business insurance?
Not quite. Healthcare often concerns delivering care; life sciences can involve developing, testing or supplying medical products and research services. Some businesses overlap. Tell us about every activity so the scope can be reviewed.
Does ordinary products liability cover clinical trials?
Do not assume so. Clinical trial risks can require a dedicated arrangement with details of the sponsor, protocol, sites and countries. Insurance does not replace ethics approval, regulatory requirements or trial governance.
Are research samples and cold storage automatically covered?
No. Samples, research materials, temperature changes and specialist equipment may have exclusions, valuation issues or sublimits. Explain what could be lost and how it would be valued or replaced.
Can you arrange cover for every product or trial?
We cannot promise acceptance. Product type, development stage, intended use and territories affect market appetite. Our first step is to confirm the scope, information needed and whether suitable markets can be approached.
What happens after I enquire?
Our team reviews your activities and the scope of the work before approaching insurers. These enquiries are broker-led, not automatic quotes. For complex placements, we agree an engagement letter before detailed broking work begins. Making an enquiry does not start cover.

Tell us what you're developing, and what comes next.
General information only. This does not take into account your objectives, financial situation or needs. Availability and cover depend on underwriting acceptance and the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and excesses. An enquiry is not confirmation of cover. Read the relevant policy documents and our Financial Services Guide.
